Wed., 5/18 - Normandy to Mont Saint-Michel

After lunch in Lisieux, we traveled to the American Cemetery at Normandy where 9,387 American soldiers rest.  It was much more emotionally moving than expected.  After listening to a talk by a French tour guide we visited the chapel where we prayed a Divine Mercy Chaplet and sang several versus from 'For All the Saints'.  We then bused to Mont Saint-Michel, one of the top two St. Michael the Archangel pilgrimage sites.  St. Michael appeared three times to St. Aubert, the local bishop, instructing him to build  church on the rocky islet.  After the bishop failed to follow through on his task the first two time, with his finger, St. Michael burned a hole in the saint's skull.  That did the trick.  Mont Saint-Michel is the inspiration for the castle in the Disney movie 'Tangled.'  It has to be experienced. The Abbey was closed for renovation, so we couldn't make it to the top, but we did find a smaller church, St. Pierre, halfway up the Mount.
